There are over 200 hotels in Lanzarote for tourists to choose from. With establishments ranging from one star through to full blown five star luxury.
The bulk of the most popular hotels on the island though boast four star status and can be found in the south in and around the fast growing resort of Playa Blanca. Playa Blanca was the most recent of the three main resorts on Lanzarote to undergo development – transforming this former fishing village into a popular and bustling holiday destination.
Most of the best hotels in Playa Blanca are located along the seafront – which doubles as a promenade that runs from one end of the resort to the other. This is also where visitors will find plenty of good quality bars and restaurants to enjoy. Along with harbour from where they can hop onto a ferry across to the near neighbour island of Fuerteventura
Whilst British guests tend to opt for self catering accommodation tourists from Germany and Spain prefer to stay on one of the island´s hotels. And as well as Playa Blanca there are good quality establishments in Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise too. As well as the island capital of Arrecife. Which also boasts a beach located right in the centre of the city.
Room rates on the island are very reasonable. Expect to pay from €60 per room per night for a decent four star hotel. And from €125 plus for five star accommodation – such as the Arrecife Gran Hotel or the Gran Melia Salinas located in Costa Teguise.
A further option for those who like upmarket surroundings is the emerging marina of Puerto Calero, where there are two decent hotels in the form of the Hesperia and the Costa Calero. Both located just a short stroll from the marinas many bars and restaurants.
Puerto Calero is also handily located for Lanzarote´s unique wine growing region which is a real eye opener. As all of the vines here are grown in swathes of black volcanic chippings called picon and look nothing like wine fields in say France or Italy. There are plenty of bodegas here to explore also offering free or cheap samples of their wine as well as gift packs to take back with you as souvenirs.
These days flights to Lanzarote are cheaper then ever before so there really has never been a better time to visit this unique little holiday island.
