Is there anything better than traveling? Yes, there is — getting someone into the world of travel as well! When you know that you can inspire someone to push forward out of their comfort zone and see the world around them, amazing things happen. Travel teaches confidence, self-reliance, and attention to detail. Yes, this is something that tends to make people a little nervous, but there’s nothing wrong with thinking about the good side of travel more than the bad side of travel. Everything in travel is pretty controllable as long as you think about it. If you only think about the downsides, you really keep yourself from seeing everything great that comes with traveling.

For a new traveler, there are just a few things that we would recommend if you want them to really get the benefits of traveling.

The first thing that we can recommend is a really good set of winter gear. You never know when the temperature will turn on your weary traveling friend, and the last thing you want them to have to go through is struggling to find the winter basics. You can also make sure that you do a summer theme as well — it just depends on when your traveler would like to move around.

If they don’t already have a passport, that’s a really nice gesture — getting them components that they need for their passport is always a good idea. You just need to make sure that you know exactly what they’re trying to accomplish. Most destinations these days require not only passports, but also visas.

Hotel chain gift cards are a fun idea, because many hotels are actually international. So even if they don’t plan to stay in the country, you never know when they’ll need a good hotel. While we’re fans of independent hotels, there comes a time where you want a typical experience across the board, no matter where you stay. The big chain hotels know that, and that’s why they’ve become so successful. After a long day on the road or on the plane, travelers know that they’re coming “home” to a very clean room.

A navigation system is a great traveling gift, especially for someone that wants to go on a good road trip. Getting lost is a strong reality for first time travelers, and it can be hard to ask for directions. As long as they have access to satellite coverage, they’ll be able to get where they need to go. Many nav systems are now portable, which means that even if they travel away from home without the car in tow, they’ll still know where they need to go.

Trying to tap into the benefits of travel can be hard enough but what about when you need a guidebook to get you going? Without getting the right guidebook, you could miss out on events that would otherwise be at the top of your list.

What can you really do about it, though? Well, the time is definitely right to start thinking about going out to the store and picking up some guidebooks. If your traveling friend already has an Amazon Kindle or a Barnes & Noble Nook, then they’re already in luck. There are plenty of low cost guides that you can gift them, making it easy for them to keep the right information handy.

Language CD’s and DVD’s are always a great treat for travel fans, because it allows them to learn the local language of where they really want to travel. The point here is that while most tourists don’t have to learn the local language to survive these days (many countries teach students English in school to stay competitive), the reality is that when you show another person that you really can speak their language a little, it goes over quite well.

Now is the perfect time to do what you can for the traveler in your life — after all, now is the holiday season! Yes, you can use these gift ideas for your own stocking, but isn’t this the season of giving? You know what to do!

One of the reasons why a lot of people carry around travel guides is because they want to be able to find their way around town like a pro. This is because any person who has a travel guide in his hand would have an instrument that would undoubtedly enable him to navigate through many different places as though he had lived there all his life. Yes, these travel guides may not include all the things that you would need to know in order to pass off as a local but at the end of the day, they still do make you less likely to be seen as a foreigner.

How is this possible? The answer is because these travel guides give you all sorts of information such as nice places to eat, great places to stay, beautiful cafes to spend the afternoon in, and a lot of other pertinent data that would ensure that you would no longer end up like a lost child in a big city. If you are someone who has the pricier travel guides, you may even notice that the contact details of a lot of establishments and important places are printed onto these things. This means that the telephone number of the local police station, hospital, and even fire station are all their in your travel guide. Similarly, the number of that nice tourist attraction and that fancy restaurant may also be printed on those travel guides which means making reservations becomes a whole lot easier than it usually is.

How else can travel guides help you navigate the world like a pro? Another way it can help you is through its maps which are usually printed out on the guide. It must be said that travel guides usually are released on a per city basis therefore do not expect to find a meticulous map of one city if you bought the travel guide for another city. Returning to the maps, you should know that these maps could help you escape having to take expensive cab rides since you would be able to figure out if the location of the place you want to go to is really far off. If it is not far away, you probably should consider just walking to that place since you have your travel guide with you to help you navigate through all the different streets of a particular city.

Getting around a city that you don’t live in has always been a problem that travel junkies have had to solve. Yes, you can have taxis, and yes, you can even have buses. However, there are many benefits to having your own transportation. You just need to make sure that you fight for what you want rather than feeling like there’s no point in doing so. It’s better to really think about your comfort when you’re planning a trip. For example, if you’re the type of person that really likes to just go out and see everything there is to see, you’re not going to really like being stuck without the power to do that. It’s only going to make you feel like you’re not really on vacation at all, and who would want to feel that way if they could help it?

No, if you really want to experience the absolute best that your holiday has to offer, it’s going to need to be car hire. If you’ve already taken the time to get an international driver’s license, then car hire is really a piece of cake.

You just need to go online. In the past you might of had a travel agent locally that set up your car hire, but that’s no longer necessary. In fact, this is an approach that can really cost you a lot more money than you might have imagined. It just makes more sense in the long run to really think about the type of adventure you want, and then get that — not what someone else thinks you should do. There are some travelers that feel that renting a car is never necessary, and other travelers that feel that something would be missing from the experience if they didn’t have their own private car.

Having your private car means that when you want to go out, you can go out. When you want to take off on something new, you can do that. If you want to stay home, you can do that too. There’s a world of options that arises for you, ready for the taking.

You will really need to make sure that you read the fine print of your contract and ensure that there aren’t going to be any problems. Sure, it’s tempting to think that you won’t have anything to think about, but you might be surprised. If you go with the wrong company, they might try to stick you with damages that you didn’t cause. We have heard plenty of horror stories over the years, but the truth is simple — make sure that you read the fine print. In addition, you will also want to make sure that you think about taking pictures of the car before, and taking pictures of the car after. Have them date and time stamped so that if it becomes a legal issue, you know your rights.

Having your car hire booked on a credit card is also good, because you can go back later and dispute the charge if there’s something that goes wrong. With a debit card you can do the same thing, but you’re still out of that money until you reach a resolution.

So, the order of the day here is to be organized. Know what type of car you want from the beginning, and lay off the extras — navigation and all of the bells and whistles are nice, but it doesn’t really do you any good if you end up blowing through your budget. There are plenty of deals to be had online, just make sure that you stay skeptical and ready to walk away from a deal that seems just too good to be true.

Remember also that bundling your flight, hotel, and car hire can save you a lot of money — especially during the busy peak travel times of the year.

Good luck out there!

If there’s one thing that we know about Google, it’s that they don’t stop creating new services very often. There’s always something in the works. So when we first heart about the Google Hotel Finder, we weren’t really surprised per se. Indeed, it makes sense for the search engine giant to start thinking more about travel and the way people search for travel. As you might imagine, travel is pretty big business.

What the Google Hotel Finder does is essentially let you research and book your hotel stay. It’s metasearch on steroids, in the same way that Kayak and Bing Travel are.

Some of the features that catch attention first is that all you have to do is enter the city or ZIP code and Google gets to work. There’s no need to hit search or even wander off to another page. The miracle of AJAX is that Google will simply do its magic and adjust your page automatically without anymore need for navigation. There is a list of hotels that spring up in the “popular” areas of the city.

There is also a map provided instantly of all of the hotels. It’s contained in a “shape” that you can manipulate.

Click any of the hotels in the hotel list, and another window will spring up immediately to give you a description, a link to the official website on file, photos, and even pieces of Google user reviews. There are also links to other review sites and of course, the infamous Book button. You didn’t think that Google was doing this completely for free, right? When you book through them, they’re going to collect a referral fee for leading you to what you’re looking for.

You can also “compare” rates and see how the rate presented is actually measuring against other hotels in the area. That keeps you from booking an overpriced room, or so the theory goes.

It’s a service that has some mixed reviews. Navigation could be a little better, and not all hotels will show rates automatically. It’s obvious that the service needs a little more work before people will drop Kayak or Bing Travel, but just the fact that Google is making the attempt means that we’re going to hear a lot more about the Google Hotel Finder in the months and even years to come.

Traveling on a train isn’t a new transportation method. Although most people no longer travel on trains, some still do. So for all those that are traveling on a train for the first time I dedicate this article to you. It isn’t going to be easy, but it sure will give you a experience you’ve never had.

I’ll begin by starting with what you wear. Depending on where you are going and what you will be doing is what you should pack. If your in the cold, pack a coat, plenty of sweats and extra socks. The socks will make great insulators, trust me.

Your main priority should be your comfort. When your traveling on the train you want to be comfortable. If you lose that, you might lose your sanity. Just imagine the amount of time you will have spend on the train, uncomfortable, and claustrophobic. Taking out the time to try on various outfits and clothes will seem like a smart thing to do. Especially when you realize that comfortably will make your trip that much better.

Speaking of losing your sanity you are going to need something to do. Thanks to industrial revolution we have laptops, games, and mobile gaming devices abundantly. I urge you to pick one up. Trains can get boring real fast and you’ll want to keep yourself entertained. If your tight on a budget, then perhaps buy a book. There isn’t anything better as a good book on a long trip.

That long trip is going to get even longer if your hungry so be prepared. Train food is gross. If you like grease on bread then you’ll love it! If your like the rest of civilization then you want some decent food and the only way to get it is to make it yourself. Now I can’t tell you how much to make, or really what to make. It all depends on how long you will be on the train, and if you have to switch trains or not. If you have to switch, then you should have enough time to pick something up at a fast food restaurant. If not, then you’ll have to make your own meals.

My final word of advice to you would be to have cash on hand. It is always good to have some spare cash just in case. Not everyone takes credit cards, debit cards, or checks. So cash is just useful for those oh-my-god I can’t believe they don’t take visa moments. Have a good trip!

Planning for an upcoming holiday is nothing short of exciting — there are a lot of things that you can do to make sure that your upcoming trip is not only a safe one, but an enjoyable one. After all, if you aren’t going to have a good time then you might as well skip the trip entirely because you’re just going to end up wasting your money. On the other hand if you prepare carefully the possibilities are truly endless.

One subject that seems to be on a lot of people’s minds is ordering travel money that they have to take with them. That makes sense — you can’t accomplish anything if you don’t have the proper travel money to get things done with. You’ll end up either paying too much or even worse — not being able to pay anything at all. If you’re thinking about completing your holiday plans the right way, you must start by ensuring that you have the right currency before you even land in the host country where you’ll be visiting.

Some people ignore the currency conversion needs they’ll have on vacation because they assume that their currency will be accepted anywhere they go. This might be true in a few countries, but you can probably expect to pay a little more than if you had the country’s native currency. Wouldn’t you rather get the problem taken care of before you even leave?

Not all travel money is created equal, because currency never really runs in a 1:1 ratio. This means that currency conversion isn’t just something that’s nice to have — it’s downright necessary, for all of the reasons we stated previously.

Of course, you shouldn’t just get your currency exchange needs handled anywhere — that would be just as bad as arriving in the country without enough money to do business properly. With so many scams going around relative to currency conversion circles, you have to be on alert and vigilant. Otherwise, you’ll end up without any money at all to spend — what would be the point of that?

In the past, you had to go out to a kiosk where you basically had to wait in line with everyone else. This can really eat into your vacation time when you would rather be going on to your flight, or checking out the city that you just traveled to. Why would you want to put yourself through that when they make cash passports now?

You can change your money over from the comfort of your own home now, but there are still those convenient kiosks in case you run out of time before you’re scheduled to depart.

Either way, the time is right to get travel money on your terms — why wouldn’t you want to get started today?

Helsinki is one of the most beautiful cities in Finland. If you got a chance to visit it, then check out below the best attractions and monuments which you can see there.

The oldest part of Helsinki is the Senate Square, which is among the most beautiful squares in the world. It is a masterpiece of the German architect Carl Ludwig Engel who lived in Finland during the 18th century. In the center of the square you can see a monument of Alexander II, the Russian Emperor, who during his life did a lot for the preservation and promotion of the Finnish culture and traditions.

The center of the city is divided into rectangles of blocks and each neighborhood has its own name. Interesting fact is that the central neighbourhoods of the city were named after exotic animals during 1812 and even today you can see many interesting metal signs attached to the corners of the buildings. So, do not be surprised if you see a picture of rhinos, camels and other exotic animals together with colorful characters in this north city of the world.

Without any doubt, the most lively place in Helsinki is the Market Square. This is the place where you can catch the famous ferry called “Power” and visit the beautiful nature surrounding the city. There you can also see many street artists and musicians, who will greatly show you to best of the Finnish culture and traditions.

Other popular monuments and landmarks which you can see are the Palace of Finland, the Palace of the Opera and the Olympic stadium. Their architecture is really amazing and beautiful, so make sure to bring your camera with you, otherwise, you will miss some of the best shots in your life. Another building which you can visit is the Assumption Cathedral which is the biggest Orthodox church in the Western world. It is built in 1850 by the Russian architect Gornostaev in honor of Virgin Mary. The typical orthodox architecture will make you feel like you are in the heart of Moscow for sure.

The cultural life of Helsinki is really huge and modern. There are many art galleries, incredible concert halls and more than 70 museums where you can see interesting artifacts coming form the whole world. The eight theaters and the National Opera and Ballet will give you the opportunity to see some of the best and newest shows and performances.

Near the city, located on the island, you can visit the famous fortress called Sveaborg. This huge and beautiful stone castle was built in 1774 with the only purpose to protect the city from the sea invasion. It is really impressive view and it is listed in the UNESCO world cultural treasures. Nowadays, you can visit there many exhibitions, cafes and restaurants, where you can try some of the best Finnish meals and drinks.

We’ve covered Barbados and Jamaica, so now it’s definitely time to put in a few words for St. Maarten. Some people like to hop around the Caribbean, but if you really had to pick a place in the Caribbean to start with, you definitely want to pick St. Maarten. The island is well known for its luxurious offerings, and while it’s possible to go on the cheap anywhere in the Caribbean, you will have a lot more fun if you make a little room in your budget for some of the luxury things.

Ready for your own little virtual list of all things St. Maarten? Great, let’s go!

One thing that you have to know about this island nation is that it’s actually based on two different countries. There’s Sint Maarten, which belongs to the Dutch, and St. Martin, which belongs to the French. Tourists can go to either side of the island and find plenty of things to do. The Dutch side tends to favor a lot of partying and wild fun, whereas the French side is a bit more laid back with more focus on its French roots than anything else.

The best time to go to the island is…anytime! You’ll find an annual temperature to be around 26 degrees C — about 78 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s pretty warm all year long, but there are times where the heat cools off. July through October is when you’re going to get a lot of heat and humidity. September is hurricane season and many businesses shut down to protect themselves. Being an island nation, hurricanes can be really brutal so it’s better to close and protect what you have than to just assume that you can weather hurricane season. Some years you might get lucky but other years, well… you get the idea.

So when do you need to go? November and December are great times, but it could get busy as people think about heading out for a little Thanksgiving fun, island style. May to June are great times for the weather and the whole Spring Break mentality is a bit less than you might expect.

While we’re on the subject of trip planning, you will want to make sure that you have a way to get around the island. Rental cars are really the name of the game, and there are deals everywhere. It might seem like it wouldn’t be intelligent to get a rental car for such a small island, but public transportation is a bit spotty at best. So if you don’t want to walk everywhere, make sure that you and your guests get that rental car!

One thing about St. Martin & St. Maarten is that you will need to make sure that you have proper identification on you at all times. No matter if you enter the island on the French side or the Dutch side, you will need your passport and a visa. Give yourself enough weeks ahead of time to get both. Yes, that means that you won’t really be able to do a last minute trip to the island — unless you enter on the Dutch side. For now, you don’t need a visa there, just your passport. By now you should know that if you want to leave your home country you’re going to need a passport to get into just about everywhere you want to go.

Flights are effortless as well — there are two airports to choose from, one on each side of the island. Juliana Airport on the Dutch side (SXM) is going to be your best bet for international flights. In addition if you wanted to check out other Caribbean nations from St. Maarten, you can through this airport. The connecting flights are actually quite cheap!

So let’s talk about things that you can actually do on the island. After all, you’re not going to just want to sit around all day while nothing happens around you. You’re going to want to actually be able to get a few things accomplished that you wouldn’t be able to do at home.

Can we suggest some guided tours? The Tijon Parfumerie & Boutique is a great one. You can actually check out the only working perfume factory on the island. It blends a little bit of the French perfume world with a unique Caribbean flair. Even if you’re a guy taking his girlfriend along to the island, this is something that your girlfriend really might enjoy. There are classes where you can even make your own scent and take it with you — how cool is that? Previous guests to the boutique have reported it’s definitely a very unique experience that they wanted to enjoy again and again.

What about if you’re a more outdoorsy type? There’s sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling and plenty of time to walk on the beach and collect shells. There’s also the extreme zip line at Loterie Farm which lets you get a unique view of almost the whole island. Of course, you don’t have to ride the zip line if you don’t want to — you can check out the nature reserve and take plenty of pictures — just don’t leave behind any trash!

We just couldn’t have a complete guide to things in St. Maarten & St. Martin without a few words on the food. As you might imagine you can definitely find both French and Dutch dishes on the island. The European influence is that strong, but that doesn’t mean that the Caribbean side isn’t represented at all. You can check out spicy West Indian Creole foods, which use scotch bonnet peppers to give you a lot of smoky, spicy flavors. Rum is the drink of choice on the island, but you can find non-alcoholic beverages too.

You don’t even have to miss out on great food if you want to go the private villa route. Villas are popular because they give you privacy where you want it, and the ability to interact with the public when you want to. If you plan on staying in St. Marten / St. Martin for a while, a villa provides a luxurious option that isn’t as expensive as you might have assumed.

Overall, it’s definitely a great time to start thinking about a trip out to St. Maarten & St. Martin — you will not be disappointed!

When you marry someone, you’re not just starting a new chapter in your life — you’re actually starting a new adventure. Why not mark it with something meaningful that will leave memories that last a lifetime?

It’s a common dilemma among newlyweds: what do we do to mark the most important event of our lives? It’s not just enough to have a wedding — that’s really for the families involved between the couple. A honeymoon is something that’s just for the newlyweds in question, and there’s nothing wrong with taking a little time for yourself. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to take time to enjoy the new relationship as it takes on a completely new chapter in life.

Yet the question still remains: where do you go, and what do you do? Well, if you really want to know our opinion, you should definitely check out the wide world of cruises. Cruising is a fun time for everyone, and newlyweds are definitely a group that can benefit from a cruise trip.

Imagine it in your mind: sailing along slowly while resting in a beautiful stateroom. There are even honeymooner packages designed to really let you focus on each other. Not every cruise ship has the same features, and it’s this point that makes the world of cruises very exciting. You don’t have to take the same cruise line just to get something new — you can move around and still have a great time. You also have plenty of package deals that even include airfare. There are also all-inclusive cruises that give you a great time for one flat price. When you’re a newly married couple, it can be hard to budget things out the way you’re used to doing it on your own. However, cruising under an all-inclusive package takes the guesswork out of things completely.

There is a social component to cruising as well. As a newly married couple, you will be easily recognized by older married couples that have already “been there, done that!” This means that it’s easy to make friends — many frequent cruisers report that they even join social cruise clubs where everyone gets together for a weeklong cruise trip at certain times of the year. If you have a hard time making and keeping friends in your area, this is a great way to expand your social circle. In fact, in the age of social media, it’s even easier to keep up with your travel friends no matter where the next adventure takes them.

With these types of benefits, it makes sense to check out cruises if you’re planning a honeymoon — why not get started today?

There are a lot of guides out there about traveling for pleasure, but very few guides about traveling for business. If you’ve just gotten a new job that requires travel, you might be a bit unaware of everything that goes into the process. You don’t want to just rush in and get the wrong strategy worked out for business travel, since this can cause you to mess up in the strangest ways. The best thing that you can do overall is to have a solid strategy from the beginning. Of course, if you’re new to the world of business travel you might feel like there’s no way you could get he information. Thankfully, you have the Internet at your disposal, which is filled with guides like this one. The following tips should help make business travel as smooth as silk for you in the future.

First and foremost, you will need to determine where you’re actually headed, as well as through what method. This guide assumes that you will be traveling by plane, since that’s the most common type of transportation for business. Since plane travel is expensive, you will need to make sure that you have your costs either paid for in advance or reimbursed to you when you return from your trip. Generally speaking, if you are traveling on behalf of a company, they will generally handle all of the booking for you.

Does this mean that your job is over? Definitely not! You will still need to make sure that you are traveling to the airport with enough time to get through security. While it’s true that no one really wants to think about security checkpoints and delays, the reality is that they are definitely part of air travel. If you’ve never flown before or haven’t in a long time, you need to make sure that you plan ahead of time to have all of your items done in “travel size” in order to get through the security checkpoints. There are now limitations on how big your liquid items can really be, which means that if they are larger than a certain size you will end up having to leave them behind. This is far more costly than it’s worth, so just make sure that you plan ahead.

Planning ahead includes the type of food that you will need to pick up for your trip. If you’re handling business travel at the moment, then you should know that your food costs are tightly controlled. Anything that seems extravagant will be rejected, so keep this in mind. Generally speaking, the amount that you can spend on food and other expenses is referred to as your “per diem” costs.

If you have any questions about your specific trip, it’s important to get in contact with the travel department within your own organization. Now, if you’re a self-employed person, you will need to make sure that you’re keeping track of all of your business travel expenses. This is where having a company credit card is a good thing, because you will be able to immediately know how much you spent on certain items. When it comes time to file your taxes, you will need to look at your business travel expenses and budget wisely for the purpose.

As you can imagine, the best way to make sure that business travel stays smooth for you is to always be prepared. Can you plan for everything? Definitely not. However, the tips in this guide should allow you to be as ready as you could possibly be, so why not get started today?
