Terrific Hotels

When choosing holiday abroad, choosing a suitable hotel can pose more of a problem than choosing the holiday itself. We all hear stories from visitors who say that the hotel wasn’t completed yet and they had to stay at a building site. Or that everything was smaller than they expected and the hotel projected an image which was grander than the reality. All these little worries can stop us from making a good decision based solely on what the hotel leaflets or internet sites tell us.

A good place to start is to look for a search engine which deals specifically with hotels. Look up the place you wish to visit and see what other visitors are saying about it. There may be a few good reviews and one or two bad ones. Do not just dismiss the place because of one bad review, but be very wary if most of them are bad.

Look out for well known hotel chains. A large chain like Holiday Inn has the same standards in all of its hotels throughout the world. This means that you will find similar rooms, similar facilities and similar amenities if you go to Holiday Inn Hong Kong or Holiday Inn New York. There may be added local touches like exotic massages and different cuisine, but on the whole, you will get the same general standards in each place.

Find a hotel which is near to where you want to be. It is often a good compromise to look at a map of the area and pick a hotel that is within easy traveling distance of your location. If a hotel is totally central, it might be a little out of your price range, but one which is a mile away may be much more accessible for your purse. And, you learn a lot more about a place if you have to travel within it rather than if you are just going from your hotel to an amusement park, for example.

Look out for discounts. If you are lucky enough to be traveling in an off peak season, then you may be offered tremendous discounts to the normal price. Hotels, occasionally, also team up with local car rental firms and offer a double deal of room and car. You could also book your hotel at the same time as buying your ticket for example; this can save you money if there is a tie-up deal between the airline and the hotel. Look around for good deals; there are bargains to be had if you look hard enough.
